I have just sent off an ESA form this week so i sympathise with you.It is a daunting prospect to fill in when somedays youre so tired you struggle to remember your own date of birth! Only advice i can give is to tell the truth as you are likely to be called in for an interview. Also allow yourself plenty of time to fill it out, it took me about 12 hrs in total over a period of three weeks to fill in because i find it hard to stay alert and awake for more than a couple of hours at any one time. Also prepare yourself for when you complete your form although at first i felt a sense of relief, when i read it back through i found it quite upsetting, although i have come to terms with the fact i have narcolepsy and cataplexy i have managed to delude myself that i manage quite well, it was only when i wrote down how it affects my life that i realised how much help and support i need and how dependant i am on my family.Good luck with your application and to anyone else who finds themselves in this situation.

John - no need to apologise, you are doing a great job. I look forward to reading the info when you get round to it.

Sleepyhead - thanks for your message. I feel like I should say well done on getting through the form! Yes, it's not until you try to put it in black and white that you realise how much the condition affects your life. We're so used to our own 'normal' I suppose. This is my first form about N&C so it is a bit of a shock. Thanks for the (much needed) reminder about allowing plenty of time. It's so tempting to keep putting it off, especially as I don't want to waste my awake time on filling out a horrible form, but little and often is the best way... well the only way tbh ;-) Good luck with your application and I hope you get a (nice!) decision soon.

To quimauve when i receive a decision about ESA i will post it on the forum as it may help others going through the same process. As nobody in my family has ever claimed any benefits i have found the whole experience quite confusing and have just been muddling through not really knowing what stage is coming next. Although from reading the form it seems likely i will be called to an interview. Will let you know what happens next.Hope you are making good progress with your form i know i have been sleeping better at night since i posted mine lol!Wish you best of luck with your decision too.

To quimauve came across a site which may be useful to you.dailystrength.org/groups/uknarcolepsy/discussions/messages/7293189 may help with understanding what the ESA questions actually mean rather than how they are worded. It may help with preparing for the interview stage as well.
