Can I give you a website to look at. It the the http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk website. It is full of info and advice on dealing with appeals amongst other things.

Regarding the DLA decision makers, they are only human. They only follow guidlelines. They may ask a question and you may think they are genuinely caring, but they are in fact sneakily asking something else. The above website will highlight this. Don't be deceived by the official paperwork and rhetoric.

Don't give up!

Rob

hi sorry for the late reply ive just been trying to get myself sorted with my reconisderation etc...

so after applying for the dla to reconsider my decision, i went to see my (helpful) gp and used all the tips john mentioned. the gp was really good and advised that the gp who the dla contacted at the surgery was one who id been to see over a completely seperate matter (grrr)! my gp asked me to explain all the problems i was facing and how my narc and cat affected my day to day living, he then inputted all this info onto the surgery database. (so i at least know its on file). he also advised that if needed he would write me a letter confirming all this.
On saturday i received a letter from the dla advising once again that my application had been denied and the next step was only to appeal... this is now where i am at and just dont know what to do?!

i have a meeting with a cab advisor but its not until the 23rd march and i dont think i qualify for legal aid so i dont know how much this will all cost to take it to the tribunal?

also shall i now ask the gp for a letter and also a letter from my consultant while i am waiting to see the cab advisor so ive then got the ball rolling?

sorry to keep asking for advice its just so complicated and i dont want to do anything that will jepordise my appeal!

thanks again for your replies theyve really helped so far!!

paula x

p.s. thanks for the website above i have been looking thorugh it and its really helpful!

Hi Paula,

I can certainly feel your frustration. The only advice I can give is keep in touch with John C and Narcolepsy UK and also give the following website a look. It will help. I thunk I gave you it before, but here it is again.

http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk

I am still waiting on a date for my appeal and as I am returning to a more active life now, I am experiencing more symptoms than before.

Keep your head up and don't lose hope, we are all here for you and all!

Rob

Thanks Rob, I've found that website really helpful up to now. I just don't know what avenue to go down? Shall I represent myself when it comes to appealing or does it have to be a solicitor or agency that acts on behalf? I don't receive legal aid so I don't know how much it will all end up costing.

I've got a meeting tomorrow with a local advice centre, they hopefully should be able to help, fingers crossed!!
