Having been favoured with a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund we have been working on researching and creating a Charter to provide a framework of 'rights' to enable persons with this chronic neurological disability to receive the same access to diagnosis, access to first class treatment, and acceptance within the community, from infant school through to university, from employment to entertainment. To ensure emergency services, DWP, job centres, publicans, etc., are given an insight into how it is to live with an illness which may allow you to present to others as being 'drunken'.
Our intention is to break down barriers, provide people with narcolepsy with an equality they may not currently receive, to engage with service providers to encourage first responders and suchlike to have a second thought before calling an ambulance for someone who appears comatose - it may 'just' be cataplexy and they will be fine in a few minutes!
We encourage our narcolepsy community to join us during the day and to share their own stories with guests.
We shall have short rolling speaker sessions, Youtube presentations running, and information available.
If you know someone who may be interested bring them along to this free event.
