Narcolepsy UK trustee Helen Strongman is committing herself to a serious challenge to her lifestyle and work habits. For her this means quitting fizzy cola! Please sponsor her for this and help make her suffering worthwhile.
Helen says: "While studying for my A levels, I started to fall asleep during lessons, in the common room during breaks, on the bus on the way back from school, by the side of the badminton court … One of my unsuccessful coping mechanisms was to start a coca-cola / diet coke habit which has lasted through my diagnosis with narcolepsy and to this day. It’s recorded in my school and university year books; I was even given a six month supply when I left my last job.
To raise money for Narcolepsy UK, I am willing to give up diet coke for the month of October and not to replace it with any cola-based drinks. I’ve been practising drinking tea and think I can do it.
Narcolepsy UK supports people with narcolepsy like me, our family and friends, to cope with the impact of narcolepsy on every aspect of our lives.
I’m a trustee of the charity and recently presented the findings of our 2018 survey at our annual conference. We’re now writing a charter that will be used to raise awareness of narcolepsy and set out our rights to education, employment, financial support, and active social and family lives."
