Narcolepsy UK was incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee (07790071) on 28 September 2011 and registered as a charity in England and Wales (1144342) on 19 October 2011. The charitable company commenced charitable activities on 9 January 2012 when it took over the assets of the unincorporated association Narcolepsy UK (326361).
On 17 October 2012 the unincorporated charity (326361) was amalgamated with the charitable company (1144342), thus creating one legal entity.
On 20 November 2012 Narcolepsy UK received Scottish Charitable Status (SC043576).
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance of the charity. Trustees are either elected or co-opted and the total number of Trustees may not exceed 12. The majority of Trustees and the Chair of the charity are required by the constitution to be diagnosed narcoleptics. This means that a considerable number of Trustees have first-hand knowledge of this chronic neurological condition.
