Major Oveporexton Milestones Reached

The last few weeks have marked significant progress for the narcolepsy community
worldwide.

China approval

China approved oveporexton (ORZEYFUL) on 22 July 2026 for people aged 16+ with
Type 1 Narcolepsy, becoming the first country to approve the first-in-class orexin
receptor agonist treatment.

United States approval

The United States FDA approved oveporexton on 5 August 2026 for adults with Type
1 Narcolepsy, making it the first and only treatment approved to address the
underlying orexin deficiency that causes the condition.

What does this mean for people in the UK?

Narcolepsy UK is actively engaged in the NICE appraisal process and continues to ensure
that the voice of the narcolepsy community is heard. NICE currently lists 9 February
2027 for its first committee meeting, with guidance expected on 14 April 2027.

While these international approvals are exciting and represent a major step forward,
oveporexton is not yet available in the UK. Access will depend on both MHRA regulatory
decisions and completion of the NICE assessment process.

We will continue working on your behalf and keep our community updated every
step of the way.
