Narcolepsy UK’s Charter describes how we work collectively to achieve our vision of a society that provides the respect, care and support that people with narcolepsy and their carers deserve and should expect. We recognise the importance of research in achieving these goals, and the value of involving people with lived experience of narcolepsy in research.
As we are a small organisation, with ever increasing demand for our services, we must prioritise our time and resources. In terms of research, we focus on projects that are specific to narcolepsy and that involve us throughout the research project. This allows us to read all study documents thoroughly and helps to ensure that the project will benefit people with narcolepsy, that the specific needs of people with narcolepsy have been considered, that the study design is ethical and responsible, and that the project fits with our organisational aims and values as articulated though our Charter.
We sometimes receive a donation from the research organisation or their sponsor to recognise the work that we do at Narcolepsy UK and this provides an important income stream that allows us to continue to offer our services across the UK.
Evolve Fieldwork, an organization specialized in healthcare studies, is conducting a study to understand the relationship between narcolepsy symptoms and their effect on well-being. They are currently looking for patients diagnosed with narcolepsy, aged 18 years and above, to participate. The study will be online and will consist of two successive surveys of about 30 min each within a time difference of 3 to 6 months between each survey. As a token of appreciation, Evolve Fieldwork are offering an £80 incentive paid upon completion of the first survey and £55 incentive upon completion of the second survey.
