Having narcolepsy can have a significant impact on your quality of life, and may affect your financial situation. Your ability to earn an income may go down because of the effects of your health problems, so it is important to find out if there are any benefits you can claim. Even if you are still working there may be other benefits you are entitled to.

Help with NHS travel costs

If you are referred to hospital or other NHS premises for NHS specialist treatment or diagnostic tests by your doctor, dentist or other health professional, you may be able to claim a refund of reasonable travel costs.

Prescription Prepayment Certificates

Many people with narcolepsy are prescribed multiple medications, and – unless you are entitled to free prescriptions - the cost can be substantial. It may be cheaper to buy a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) – effectively a prescription "season ticket".

A PPC covers all of your NHS prescriptions, including NHS dental prescriptions, no matter how many items you need.
