HELP & SUPPORT provided by Narcolepsy UK is FREE. This includes support with benefits applications.

However, we have a much better success rate when an application for DLA/PIP/etc is aided by our Benefits Advisor right from the start - to help ensure you accurately give real emphasis to what you cannot do.

So if you have Narcolepsy or Idiopathic Hypersomnia and are considering making a Benefits Application, do FIRST email

Sleep is as vital as drinking water and people who sleep well simply cannot grasp just how devastating a sleep disorder like narcolepsy can be.

I've had narcolepsy for as long as I can remember. But I went undiagnosed for almost two decades. Then, in my 20s, I had a cataplexy attack for the first time, my muscles suddenly giving way during sex. This was one of the most frightening experiences of my life because I remained conscious but had no idea what was going on and thought I must be dying.

New Helpline and Benefits Advisor

We are pleased to introduce to you Linda Reynolds who has joined us as Helpline and Benefits Advisor.

Linda is married with one adult daughter and with a close relative who has narcolepsy and cataplexy. She has a rather eclectic work history ranging from lecturing to making designer wear, managing manufacturing departments and shops and ending as a civil servant working on Tax Credits and latterly Universal Credit.

We look forward to working with Linda to offer support and in particular help with benefits to the UK narcolepsy community.

Supplementing the work of Rebecca, who has recently reduced her hours following a change to her career path. We wish Rebecca well and are pleased she will still be working with us.

We seek a conscientious and dedicated person to work with our clients for 12 hours a week. Some day and some evening hours preferred, although we can be flexible with this we do need to have set hours when clients are able to contact you.

Our helpline service – the capacity of which is always stretched to the limit - has recently experienced an exceptional number of requests for assistance in relation to benefit claims. If you have already sent in a request for assistance we hope to be able to fulfill that request but are currently reviewing this and hope to be able to update you over the coming days.
