Prescription Prepayment Certificates

Many people with narcolepsy are prescribed multiple medications, and – unless you are entitled to free prescriptions - the cost can be substantial. It may be cheaper to buy a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) – effectively a prescription "season ticket".

A PPC covers all of your NHS prescriptions, including NHS dental prescriptions, no matter how many items you need.

There are two PPC options to choose from:

  • a 3-month PPC – currently (September 2017) costs £29.10 and will save you money if you need more than three prescribed items in three months
  • a 12-month PPC – costs £104.00 and will save you money if you need more than 12 prescribed items in a year

A 12-month PPC can be paid for by 10 monthly direct debit instalments.

The savings made with a PPC can be considerable. Even if you only need two items each month, you can save more than £100 with a 12-month PPC.

A PPC can be bought online or by post. For details, visit the NHS England website here.
