Prescription Prepayment Certificates

Many people with narcolepsy are prescribed multiple medications, and – unless you are entitled to free prescriptions – the cost can be substantial. It may be cheaper to buy a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) – effectively a prescription “season ticket”.

A PPC covers all of your NHS prescriptions, including NHS dental prescriptions, no matter how many items you need.

For details, see the NHS website here.

  • a 3-month PPC costs £31.25 (August 2023) and will save you money if you need more than three prescribed medications in the course of three months
  • a 12-month PPC is £111.60 (August 2023) and will save you money if you need more than 11 prescribed items in a year

A 12-month PPC can be paid for by 10 monthly direct debit instalments.

The savings made with a PPC can be considerable. If, for example, you need two items each month, a 12-month PPC will save you over £120.

A PPC can be bought online or by post. For details, visit the NHS England website here.
